Held on November 28th. 1998 at Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn (Newcastle Emlyn Comprehensive School).

As in previous years the event consisted of under-11, under-15 and under-18 sections.
Once again the two older sections were amalgamated due to a shortage of 15-17 year olds
but the number of under-15s was up on previous years. The turnout for the under-11s 
was rather disappointing since half of the 30 entries came from one school! A good time
was had by all, however, and there were some notable individual performances : Andrew
Walden-Jones became under-18 champion for the third year in a row, Ifan Johnston (still 
only 5 years old!) took the under-9 prize, and his two older siblings also gained honours, 
Lowri winning the under-15 and Gruffydd the under-11 championship. My grateful thanks 
go to Iolo Jones for controlling the older section, to Chris Whyley and Geoff Winterman 
for controlling the under-11s (with help all day from Alan Edwards), and to Hugh James 
and Dafydd Johnston for coaching the younger ones between rounds. Please make a note 
in your diary for next year - we try to hold this event on the final Saturday of November every year.
