East Glam League Moves to Exciting Climax

Welsh Championship Starts Tomorrow

Next Year in Baghdad

Games From Under 2000 Jamboree

This years Under 2000 County Jamboree was one of the most exciting for years with the title in doubt until the end of the final game when the East Glam captain (Dave Robinson) won to give his team the title.  The standard of play was excellent and there were many games which are worth playing over.  Bill Hewitt has been kind enough to send the files, which are attached.  If you have chessbase or some other compatible chess system, you can share the excitement by playing over them.  See Brian Gregory chop me up and spit me out in round 1 or Olivia Smith's excellent win in round 2.

Many thanks Bill

Question re Duffing Up Grandmasters.

Further to the articles on this topic in previous issues, I have it at the back of my mind that Abigail Cast did something nasty to an English GM in the 4ncl a couple of years ago.  Can anybody shed any light on this?

East Glam League Moves to Exciting Climax

Division 1 of the East Glam league is moving to a fascinating close, with Cardiff and Barry slugging it out for top spot.  With two matches to play Cardiff have the advantage with 62 points to Barry's 58.  However, Barry have no less than 5 unfinished games, the results of which are likely to considerably close the gap. To add spice to the finish, Barry have to play bottom of the table Caerphilly Castles, while Cardiff have to take on Barry seconds.  I bet the seconds will be strong that night.  Then a final twist, they are down to play each other in the final game of the season.  To keep up with the action visit

Next Year in Baghdad

Great News!!  the Welsh Championship is going back on the road.  As part of the Peace and Reconciliation Programme, we have accepted an offer to hold next year's tournament in Baghdad.

The announcement was made by the new WCU Publicity Officer: Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf.  Following his great performances as Iraqi Minster of Information, al Sahhaf had been tipped as the next head of spin, either in Downing Street or Washington.  However, a specially trained squad of WCU Nerds snatched him from under the noses of the Marines and SAS.  Apart from being a great coup for the WCU it has also defused a potentially very dangerous international situation.  A nuclear standoff had arisen between Britain and the USA as Blair and Bush argued about who should be entitled to his services.

For security reasons the identities of all members of the WCU Nerd division must remain secret, but I'm sure I speak for all Welsh Chessplayers when I say, "Well done lads! We're proud of you".
