Dear Friends
I had planned to send out another edition
today, but its taking longer than expected to prepare. Unfortunately, I'm

interest you.

The Ladies AGM will be held during the
tournament, 1.30pm on Sat.
Am I alone in thinking the prize money (for
what is after all a national championship) is derisory. I will have more
to say regarding the low status accorded to this important event in a future
issue.
Congratulations
Hearty congratulations to Cyril Lee
(Pentyrch) for his excellent performance in the recent Kidlington
tournament. 3 out of 5 may not look spectacular, but to get that he had to
beat Matt Rose (BCF208, WCU2264, over 400 points higher than him) and he did it
with the black bits. I've asked him fro a copy of the game, but he has
declined. I suspect he has underestimated the quality of his own
play. Never mind, we can still say 'Nice one Cyril'.
Cyril may have won the grading prize, but
because of the distance he had to travel left before this was determined.
Let us know if you did, Cyril.
I understand that Monmouth's IM, James
Sherwin, was also playing. Would you like to let us know how you got on
James?
Recent Contacts.
Ian Jones of Morriston rang me over the
weekend. He confirmed that the East Glam score in the under 200 jamboree
was a record. He also told me that the jamboree had been played in its
present format for four years, the first three under 2000 events having been won
by West Wales.
Thanks Ian.
Bill Hewitt (White Knights) has informed me
that he has all the games from the jamboree available in chessbase format.
I'm hoping that he'll be able to send them to me so that I can pass them on as
an attachment file to an issue in the near future. Thanks Bill.
(Email me if you don't want to receive the
file).
As many of you will remember, Bill was one
of the people responsible for the Knight Moves magazine that used to report on
Welsh chess a few years ago.
Very Best Wishes
Dai James.
